The Ideas That Unite Ward 7

Politics shouldn’t get in the way of neighbourhood voices

Across the ward, there’s concern that the introduction of political parties at city hall will drown out local priorities. People want councillors who represent the specific needs of their communities, not party agendas.

Growth is welcome if it’s done right

Residents support new housing and infill but want growth that fits their community’s scale, preserves mature trees, ensures parking, and is paired with investment in transit and amenities. They also called for better construction practices to reduce disruption and deliver higher-quality buildings.

A healthy downtown helps everyone

People see Calgary’s downtown as deeply connected to their neighbourhoods. They want it to be safe, lively, and welcoming, including better basic amenities, more cultural programming, and a stronger pedestrian experience.

we love where we live

People across Ward 7 spoke with pride about living in the inner city because of the tree-lined streets, easy access to parks, schools, shops, and services, and the ability to walk or bike to where they need to go. Each community has its own character, and residents want to see that uniqueness protected and celebrated.

Neighbourhood life matters

Beyond the big issues, neighbours talked about wanting vibrant local gathering places, from playgrounds and dog parks to small-business streets and cultural events. Residents see these everyday amenities as the heart of what makes Ward 7 a great place to live.

we care about our environment

From protecting mature trees and adding more greenery, to expanding parks and pathways, to supporting community gardens and local food projects, residents want growth that keeps our neighbourhoods green, healthy, and connected to nature.

safety on our streets is a shared concern

Many said that while walkability is a big reason they love their neighbourhood, it doesn’t always feel safe. Speeding traffic, dangerous crossings, poorly lit areas, and noise from revving engines or helicopters were common frustrations. Families in particular want calmer streets around schools and playgrounds, along with safer cycling routes and better transit connections.

FOcus on Community wellbeing and safety

Many recognize that people experiencing homelessness are part of our communities and deserve support. But they also feel City Hall is only moving the problem around and not actively addressing the issues by helping homeless people off the street. Residents want approaches that make everyone feel safe while addressing root causes.
