Called Moh'kinstsis in Blackfoot, Wîcîspa in Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i in Dene, this land we now call Calgary where the Bow and Elbow rivers meet has been a gathering place for Indigenous people for thousands of years.

As a sign of respect and gratitude for the people who cared for this land, we acknowledge the Treaty 7 signatories which includes the Siksika Nation, Piikani Nation, Kainai Nation, the Îethka Stoney Nakoda Nation, consisting of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Good Stoney Bands, and the people of the Tsuut’ina Nation. This area is also home of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Districts 5 and 6.

We must see ourselves as part of the continuum of this place, and let us continue to steward this land for future generations in the ways it has been by all those before us.
