Your neighbourhood listening tour report
west hillhurst
We’ve been knocking on doors and collecting survey feedback for over six months in West Hillhurst and across Ward 7, and we learned a lot about residents’ priorities.
What we heard
Residents consistently emphasized the importance of community amenities like parks, the arena, and the pool, which serve as anchors for neighbourhood life.
“Our arena, pool and parks bring people together.”

Traffic and parking were raised repeatedly as challenges. Cut-through traffic on residential streets is a common frustration, and parking pressure near the community centre and local schools continues to be an issue.

“Trees and green space are a huge part of our identity.”

Other priorities included safer pedestrian routes and crossings, improved cycling and walking connections, concerns about rising housing costs, and interest in more small-scale retail, cafés, and family-friendly programming.
Green space and the tree canopy are deeply valued. Residents called for more tree planting, improved parks, and stronger investments in public spaces.
Preserving West Hillhurst’s identity through thoughtful redevelopment was another theme. Many residents said they welcome change but want it to respect the community’s established character.
