Your neighbourhood listening tour report
point mckay
We’ve been knocking on doors and collecting survey feedback for over six months in Point McKay and across Ward 7, and we learned a lot about residents’ priorities.
What we heard
Point McKay’s riverfront location as its defining strength. The Bow River pathways and easy access to nature make the community one of Calgary’s hidden gems.
“Living next to the Bow is amazing.”
— Point McKay Resident
Traffic noise from Memorial Drive is a persistent challenge. Residents said it affects daily life and makes it difficult to escape the sound of busy roads.
“Many people who moved here when it was first built are still here because it’s such a gem of a community.”
— Point McKay Resident
“Memorial Drive traffic is too loud and fast, and it’s hard to escape.”
— Point McKay Resident
The condition of pathways was another frequent concern. People want more consistent upkeep and lighting along these vital community connections.
“The pathways need better maintenance.”
— Parkdale Resident
Residents also expressed frustration about the lack of local shops and retail options. While Point McKay is well located, daily amenities are limited.
“I wish we had more local shops nearby.”
— Parkdale Resident
Looking forward, people called for more trees, greenery, and seating to enhance public spaces, as well as safer pedestrian and cycling connections to nearby neighbourhoods. Construction disruptions, cleaner sidewalks, and amenities that make high-density living more enjoyable were also top of mind.
