Your neighbourhood listening tour report
montgomery
We’ve been knocking on doors and collecting survey feedback for over six months in Montgomery and across Ward 7, and we learned a lot about residents’ priorities.
What we heard
The river and natural areas are at the heart of community life. Residents describe them as what makes Montgomery feel unique, offering both recreation and a small-town atmosphere within the city.
“The river makes Montgomery feel like a small town in the city.”
— Montgomery Resident
People also take pride in Montgomery’s welcoming, neighbourly feel, but worry about how redevelopment could affect that character.
“There’s been so much construction in the area. I know we need more houses, but I wish it would slow down a little.”
— Montgomery Resident
Traffic safety was one of the most common concerns. Residents pointed to cars speeding along Bowness Road and the need for calmer, safer streets.
“Cars speed too fast through our main roads.”
— Montgomery Resident
Parks and playgrounds came up again and again as spaces that knit the community together. Residents want more investment in these gathering spaces to strengthen Montgomery’s sense of connection.
“Our parks and playgrounds are where the community gathers.”
— Montgomery Resident
The riverfront is another focus, with calls for safer pedestrian access and better connections.
“Safer walking routes to the river would be a big improvement.”
— Houndsfield Heights-Briar Hill Resident
Noise from major roads and helicopter traffic adds to daily frustrations.
There are also concerns about snow clearing, garbage removal, and the overall maintenance of public spaces.
Residents want to see more trees, landscaping, and local businesses that make Montgomery feel complete.
