Your neighbourhood listening tour report
hillhurst
We’ve been knocking on doors and collecting survey feedback for over six months in Hillhurst and across Ward 7, and we learned a lot about residents’ priorities.
What we heard
Residents describe Kensington as the heart of the neighbourhood. Its small businesses, cafés, and community spaces bring energy and vibrancy to daily life.
“Kensington makes our neighbourhood feel alive.”
— Hillhurst Resident
Parking is a recurring frustration. Residents recognize that the area’s popularity is part of its charm, but parking shortages and congestion remain a challenge.
“Parking is tough but the energy of the area is worth it.”
— Hillhurst Resident
Preserving Hillhurst’s small-scale character is a key theme. People voiced concerns about the spread of chain stores, saying the community’s independent shops are what make it special.
“Small businesses are what give this community its charm and I wish we had less chain stores coming in.”
— Hillhurst Resident
Traffic and safety also came up often. Residents worry about cut-through traffic on residential streets and are calling for more traffic calming measures, especially near schools.
Tree-lined streets are part of Hillhurst’s identity, and residents want continued investment in shaded walkways, sidewalks, and public seating.
“We need to keep investing in our trees and sidewalks.”
— Hillhurst Resident
Affordability is on people’s minds. Rising housing costs make it harder for families and newcomers to stay.
There is also strong support for improving flood resilience in nearby areas.
“People move here and then you never leave because it’s such a great community.””
